Whatever your lifestyle is, think about all the different activities your feet can do. Say, walking, running, jumping, skipping, jogging, kicking, climbing, even dancing. It will be hard to get anywhere without the help of your feet. The average adult takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day, which adds up to about 115,000 miles over a lifetime. That's more than enough to go around the circumference of the earth four times! A newborn human has an average of 300 bones in the body while adults have 206, and of these are found in our feet. When they are out of alignment, the rest of the body follows. 52 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles make our feet sturdy enough to handle all these activities. But that doesn't mean our feet are not prone to injury and disease. The skin between the toes is soft, supple and often moist while the skin on the heel is firm and the undersurface of the forefoot is tough enough to take consistent pounding but flexible enough to bend. Most of the time, people take their feet for granted until they get in trouble.Foot ailments can be a sign of serious medical conditions, such as arthritis, diabetes, and nerve and circulatory disorders. One common foot disease is called Athlete's Foot or Tinea Pedis, is a fungal infection caused by dermatophytes which feed off the dead surface of human skin, hair and nails. It is a common foot infection found in the warm, moist environments of pools, showers, locker rooms and other sports facilities, where people walk with bare feet. That is why the warm, moist environment of sweaty socks and shoes encourages these fungi to grow and infect the feet. There are three kinds of fungus - Microsporum, Trichophyton, Epidermophyton, the most common being Trichophyton Rubrum.Symptoms of Athlete's Foot include:Intense itching of the feet Cracked, blistered or peeling areas of skin, especially between the toes Redness and scaling on the solesGenerally, signs of "fungal infection" are seen on the webbed skin between the toes. In some people, the infection spreads to one or more toenails, causing the nail to appear unusually thick and cloudy yellow.Four patterns of infected feet:between toes (red, mushy changes in web spaces) dry, scaly skin on whole underside of foot, and cracks on the heels are common tiny blister-like eczema on instep skin and toe nail involvement. In order to prevent athlete's foot, always keep your feet clean and dry. More specifically, you can try the following:Make sure you wash your feet thoroughly daily and always wear a clean pair of socks after you take a bath or shower. Take enough time to dry your feet, especially each toe, thoroughly (especially the webbed area between the toes) after you bathe, shower or swim. Whenever you use public pools or showers, always wear thongs or sandals to prevent your bare feet from touching floors contaminated with fungi. Go for leather shoes rather than vinyl, since leather lets feet breathe so they are more likely to stay dry. Choose cotton socks to absorb sweat well. Try not to wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row if possible. Doing so will give shoes a 24-hour break to air out and dry out. Sharing shoes is not advisable.Treatment of foot fungus:Antifungal creams Descaling moisturizers containing lactic acid For people with chronic illness or those whose nails are involved, oral antifungal medication may be needed. It's important then that these steps be followed to avoid fungal infection and to ensure the skin of your feet remains healthy. Aside from skin infections, the feet are also prone to injury such as muscle sprain and stress fractures. Improperly fitting shoes, impaired circulation or incorrectly trimmed toenails can deter you from enjoying an active lifestyle. Remember, every step you make, always put your best foot forward.
Copyright 2006 David MaillieThe Obagi Blue Peel has been featured on numerous talk shows, reality shows, and even on Oprah. So, what exactly is the infamous "Obagi Blue Peel" and what makes it so famous or desirable? Why do womens magazines rave about it and why do women wait in line to pay $500+ per peel? This article will fully explain the Obagi Blue Peel, pure TCA alternatives, pre and post skin care treatments, what one can expect, and how to save big on a TCA peel and post treatment. The Obagi Blue Peel is really a blue green cream invented by Dr. Obagi with dyes that color the skin so doctors, dermatologists and plastic surgeons know where the skin peel has and hasnt been applied. It actual doesnt have any acid in it until it is added by the doctor. Obagi Blue Peels are used with trichloroacetic acid (TCA), the active ingredient, which must be obtained seperately and then added in various strengths to the Obagi cream. Many doctors have found that using the TCA by itself in strengths of 20-50% has had better and longer lasting results and quicker application times (this results in happier patients). The purpose of any chemical "skin peel" s is to remove the top most layers of the skin revealing fresh, younger looking skin. Chemical skin peels range in strength from light glycolic acid to deeper TCA and phenol skin peels (we wont mention phenol peels as thay are highly toxic, can cause skin bleaching and most doctors will not even offer them). TCA peels, like the Obagi Blue Peel mixture are the most effective of the chemical peels and have been used by tens of thousands of dootors to treat acne, rosacea, wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, aging and sun damaged skin, etc TCA has also been found to increase the production of collagen which can result in younger, more elastic and plump skin. The Obagi Blue Peel cream slows the activity of the TCA and also weakens it so pretreatment with alpha hydroxy solutions is necessary for best results. Pure TCA, on the other hand, is a very fast acting acid and requires no pretreatment other than removing excess oil with a good soap or cleanser. The Obagi Blue Peel is applied in layers, depending on the depth desired and skin problems being addressed. Pure TCA is applied in sections. The skin will turn red and/or whiten indicating it is done and needs to be neutralized. The pure TCA is then neutralized with a soothing mixture of water, ice and baking soda. The Obagi Blue Peel does not usually need to be neutralized as it is a much weaker solution and will self neutralize on the skin.Post peel, for any "chemical peel" , solutions and creams to promote healing and prevent bacterial infections are necessary. There are many over priced solutions on the market, but none work better than Neosporin antibacterial crme or its generic equivalents. Neosporin costs at most $3 (compare this to the cost of some of the post treatment cremes available as they can cost up to $100 and arent any more effective). "skin care" will usually cost $500+ and requires several applications and expensive pretreatments (the required pretreatment, Obagi Nu Derm, can cost $250+) as it is a weaker peel.
You will notice that once the laser treatment is finished, your teeth are whiter than it used to be. Many people are choosing this option because of the fast result that it will bring you. There are two ways to have your teeth whitened - ( one is done by a dentist or teeth whitening professional and it is called professional tooth whitening system; and the other is done at home through various do-it-yourself kitsManaging the customers expectations is probably the biggest area that needs to happen as some customers will expect to have white teeth like Britney Spears or Simon Cowell but this simply is unlikely to happen and most people's teeth will get whiter but only as far as their natural colour will allow. To get white bright teeth like the stars the only way is to have veneers by the dentist and these can cost a fortune and this is why laser "teeth whitening" is now considered a real alternative when considering teeth whitening. The cost of this very fast laser whitening can vary based on your location with many of the larger cities being more expensive than other areas. Laser teeth whitening process can be expected to cost between 200 and 400 pounds on average for the full treatment. Generally speaking, the price of teeth whitening increases with the number of in-office treatments required. So the more discolored the teeth, the more visits are required and the potential of a higher total cost. Historically the only viable option for whiting teeth involved the skills of a cosmetic dentist, was time consuming, uncomfortable and extremely costly.Job interviews are good example of where first impressions count and having a great smile combined with other factors like grooming etc will only help get that job and help you earn a fortune. Money is not the only factor as having bright white teeth can only be good for your love life. As you get older the teeth loose their bright white look at as the enamel gets thinner.Laser teeth whitening or Zoom Whitening as it is sometimes known is a great solution for many people aspiring to have white teeth. Not only can the treatment be undertaken without the use of peroxide as many use chlorine dioxide which is a safe and legal alternative but also the treatment only takes an hour which for many is the biggest advantage of all.The laser teeth whitening treatment is undertaken by carefully protecting gums by the use of a gum dam and then the chlorine peroxide is applied to the teeth. The laser light oxidises the chlorine peroxide which then impregnates the enamel of the course of the hours treatment. Once the laser has finished the dioxide is then removed and the gum dam is then taken off to reveal a great smile and wonderful white teeth.
